We’ve had three artists with Jumpin Hot Club connections ( not including Dr John or Leon Redbone) who’ve sadly left us this week
From New Orleans – Spencer Bohren, a much-respected and widely traveled blues-based guitarist and visual artist, died on Saturday of cancer. He was 69. He played at least twice in Cluny & was an amazing soulful lap slide player & a lovely man.
Canadian songster Mose Scarlett played a couple times too. I remember his show in Morden Tower being soothingly good & at Cluny the same pace. A keeper of the flame of vintage music of bygone years he was a popular & again, a much travelled musician.
Today we’ve just learned that John from Flip Clothing, that in years gone by sponsored the J’Hot Club has passed. He was a stalwart of the 60’s music scene as drummer with Junco Partners & Elkie Brooks Vinegar Joe. A man loved by everybody that met him, he will be missed.
