A stunning Reggae Night At Mboro Town Hall
To start off the evening Middlesborough Town Hall will play host to the Teeside premiere of the newly released and eagerly anticipated film for reggae, ska and soul fans alike, Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records.
Combining archive footage, interviews and drama, Rudeboy is a film about the love affair between Jamaican and British youth culture, told through the prism of one of the most iconic labels in the history of black music, Trojan Records. Director Nicholas Jack Davies shows how the label was at the heart of a cultural revolution that unfolded in the council estates and dancefloors of Britain in the late 60s and early 70s, as immigration and innovation transformed popular music and culture.
A cast of legendary artists including Lee “Scratch” Perry, Toots Hibbert, Ken Boothe, Neville Staple, Marcia Griffiths, Dave Barker, Dandy Livingstone, Lloyd Coxsone, Pauline Black and Derrick Morgan bring the sounds, songs and stories to life.
After a short break the Don Letts appetisers will be the acclaimed Ska’d for Life Newcastle – Dj’s Seamus-100% Overproof, Billy Lyre- Almighty Uprisers & Mick The Skin.

Don’s reputation has been firmly established in both the film and music world by a substantial body of work from the late 70’s through the 80’s, 90’s and well into the millennium. He came to notoriety in the 70’s as the DJ that single-handedly turned a whole generation of punks onto reggae.
Letts presented ‘Culture Clash Radio’ on BBC 6 Music an still D.J’s nationally and internationally. He is also a Grammy award winner for his documentary ‘Westway To The World’. He has worked with music legends such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Gil Scot-Heron and The Jam.
