This is a facebook live …free event
For the past 12 months, hip hop artist Kay Greyson and rapper Kema Kay have been seeking out the North East’s hidden talent, and on Tuesday 27 April they will perform alongside new rappers, musicians, DJs and MCs.
The concert will be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube, headline acts Kay and Kema will perform and will introduce some of the best up-and-coming talent from the North East.
Working in partnership with arts and music development charity Northern Roots, Kema and Kay have supported around 30 young artists to write their own music, lyrics and raps. Kay explains, “We were aware there were loads of young people and aspiring artists working in their bedrooms making tracks. With schools and youth clubs closed because of lockdown, we put a shout out on social media offering to mentor artists.”
Kema and Kay were overwhelmed by the response and ultimately ended up working with 30 artists over a year – sharing their experience, creating music and offering much needed insight into the life of a hip-hop artist.
So impressed with the quality of the tracks Kema and Kay got the artists into the studio as soon as restrictions allowed to help them record their tracks and make music videos.
Now, with funding from Arts Council England’s Cultural Recovery Fund, Youth Music and the Community Foundation a selection of artists will perform at a live streamed gig on Tuesday 27 April.
Kema and Kay Greyson will headline the night, supported by some of the best hip hop and grime talent in the North East:
