Its been a while but when The Cluny said singer/songwriter John Murry was hoping to play we jumped in for a co-pro…
we just couldn’t miss this one.
John Murry from Tupelo, Mississippi, and was first seen here playing murder ballads with the late Bob Frank at Morden Towers in the mid noughts.
His debut solo record, The Graceless Age, was helped along by his chum and collaborator Chuck Prophet and listed by Uncut/Mojo as one of the 10 best records of 2013. American Songwriter included it in their Top 5 of 2013. He appeared at Jumpin Hot Club around then with a four piece band and it has been heralded by stalwarts as one of best shows we’ve ever promoted.
The follow-up to The Graceless Age, was recorded in Canada by Michael Timmins and was released by TV Records in Europe. Around about then John moved to Ireland and has been touring/writing from there ever since.
2021 saw the release of ‘The Stars are Gods Bullet Holes’ which has charted at 22 in the U.K. indie album charts and No 6 in the U.K. Americana charts. This is the tour for that album.
“John Murry’s third album is starlit and wondrous, like being wrapped in the softest black velvet. It’s an album of startling imagery and insinuating melodies, of cold moonlight and searing heat. It’s a record that penetrates to the very heart of you, searing with its burning honesty, its unsparing intimacy and its twisted beauty.”
