Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, American roots song- writer Bronwynne Brent has the kind of stop-in-your-tracks voice that sounds like Southern sunshine. Though her new album, Stardust, was recorded in Seattle, it’s the kind of album that could only come out of the South. There’s a hint of Delta blues behind the ache in her songs, a glimpse of honky-tonk twang, an echo of riverboat can-cans, a whiff of Morricone, and an atmosphere of the darker side of country songwriting. Har- kening back to the glory days of Karen Dalton, Lee Hazlewood and Gram Parsons, Brent’s songs tap into the dark undercurrent of country that starts with old Appalachian murder ballads and continues to today’s current crop of psychedelic country songwriters. Like a Juke Joint Nancy Sinatra, Bronwynne Brent unites all the best elements of Southern American roots music.

Stardust – Bronwynne Brent
A Masterpiece of Noir and Southwestern Gothic.
One of the best collections of dark Americana songwriting released over the past several months is Mississippi-born singer-guitarist Bronwynne Brent’s Stardust, streaming at Spotify. It has absolutely nothing in common with the Hoagy Carmichael song. What it does recall is two other masterpieces of noir, retro-tinged rock: Karla Rose’s Gone to Town and Julia Haltigan‘s My Green Heart. Brent’s simmering blue-flame delivery draws equally on jazz, blues, torch song and oldschool C&W, as does her songwriting.
Mush are one of the most underrated bands in the north east. They are unique & very classy ….they play original songs – folk, roots, pop noir with piano, cello, double bass & violin and the courtroom will be perfect for their music.
