GARLAND JEFFREYS & BAND (USA) + KSVT
Garland Jeffreys has influenced multiple generations of musicians since the 70s when he busted onto the US scene in 1973 with the hit, "Wild in the Streets," which is making an appearance in the upcoming Netflix show "The Get Down." Growing up in Brooklyn, NY he attended Syracuse University as an art history major where he became friends with Lou Reed. While the mainstream does not know about him, he has worked with musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and David Johansen from the legendary New York Dolls. His 2011 album “The King of in between” – punchy amalgams of rock, soul, reggae was a considered one of the best of the year and given a significant promotional push, which included an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Backed by a crack band, he is touring around the world and this is a short UK stop, so don’t miss him. He has maintained a level of critical acclaim and success that has allowed him to navigate a career with artistic integrity.

ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO (USA) with Sacri Curori + Don Antonio
Now living in Dallas Texas, Renowned songwriter, singer, true believer, Alejandro Escovedo is releasing Burn Something Beautiful on January 20th, 2017 via Fantasy Records/Proper supported by a full UK tour.
The new album, Escovedo’s first solo endeavor since 2012’s highly acclaimed Big Station, is in actuality, a highly collaborative affair. Teaming with Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5) to co-write the album’s songs, Escovedo also enlisted the pair to act as the project’s producers.
Escovedo and company take some mighty big swings here. At once a celebration of the rock and roll life, a contemplation on mortality, and the healing power of love, Burn Something Beautiful connects repeatedly with Escovedo’s soulful heart and voice at its core. Recorded in April at Portland’s Type Foundry studio, the project coalesced with the help of an esteemed group of musicians who give the album a genuine band feel. They include guitarist Kurt Bloch (The Fastbacks), drummer John Moen (The Decemberists), vocalists Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney) and Kelly Hogan (Neko Case) as well as saxophonist Steve Berlin (Los Lobos).
In a trailblazing career that began with The Nuns, San Francisco’s famed punk innovators, to the Austin-based-based alt-country rock pioneers, Rank & File, to Texas bred darlings, True Believers, through countless all-star collaborations and tribute album appearances and finally a series of beloved solo albums beginning with 1992’s acclaimed Gravity, Escovedo has earned a surplus of distinctions: No Depression magazine’s Artist of the Decade Award in 1998 and the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Performing in 2006, just to name two.
Burn Something Beautiful is Alejandro Escovedo at his very best. His many gifts are revealed across a lifetime spent in dedication to and faith in the hard work of life and music…and its possibilities. Refusing to go unnoticed.
He will be touring with Don Antonio supporting him and backed by members of Sacri Curori

REBECCA PRONSKY duo (USA) + Bridie Jackson
Brooklyn native Rebecca Pronsky is one of New York City's finest singers and songwriters who plays twangy folk that is "as urban as it is rural, not afraid to be sophisticated" (Maverick). R2 says she's "head and shoulders above most of her contemporaries, an outstanding lyricist with the ability to stop you in your tracks." The Scotsman praises her "crystal-bright yet earthily sensuous voice and melodically alluring songcraft" and Americana UK declares "she is ready to take us by storm over here." Rebecca tours heavily on both sides of the Atlantic with lead guitarist Rich Bennett who "puts the trimmings on the music with a battery of echo drenched, twangy leads" (Blurt). The duo has shared stages with Josh Ritter, Steve Forbert, Carrie Rodriguez, Patty Larkin, Shawn Colvin, and Loudon Wainwright III, among others.
Returning to the UK this Easter to promote her new record Known Objects. “I’m so proud of this one” says Rebecca “and of the amazing musicians that contributed to the recording.” It’s all the more personal having been recorded with Rich in their own ACME Hall Studios.
"She defies categorisation by combining the retro twang of an Absolute Torch era K.D Lang and the folkabilly narrative of Nanci Griffith with a dose of American noir a la The Handsome Family... just wonderful " . C M P
Bridie Jackson is a wonderful local talent & its an absolute honour to have her open this show , in her solo guise.

CALICO the band (USA) + Ted Russell Kamp (USA)
CALICO the band, are three Los Angeles songwriters Kirsten Proffit, Manda Mosher, and Aubrey Richmond. As powerful as each are individually, an undeniable magic occurs when all three come together. It’s at the heart of their debut album, “Rancho California”, which is replete with singularly strong song-writing chops, rich harmonies, and a pervasive Americana passion. Like the expansive spirit of Laurel Canyon that spawned so many famous bands and artists, now comes this new spirit, rooted in the vast valleys and canyons of L.A.
“We're very connected to a community of artists and venues that are flying the Americana flag,” said Manda “deeply influenced by the old scenes from the Palomino days, the Bakersfield Country sound from Buck Owens carried on by Dwight Yoakam, the sound of Gram Parsons' music, Joshua Tree and more”
Formed in 2012, CALICO the band started touring right away performing over 130 shows a year. They have played big US Fest’s like Stagecoach Festival 2014. You can also hear their music on TV shows such as ABC’s hit series “Nashville” and NBC’s “The Night Shift”.
Ted Russell Kamp, is a solo singer-songwriter, and also plays with Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon) as a day-job.

MARAH (USA) + Support
Weve got Marah back from USA after nearly a decade.....it stheir debut "Kids in Philly" anniversary too....Here's some recent reviews
“Marah blow the roof off with their barely contained energy. It’s street music, soul music, music to walk you off a skyscraper to… You’re left with your hair standing on end, shaken up, exhilarated, that hole in your heart temporarily fixed, which is all you can ask of great rock ‘n’ roll. And God knows, this is great rock ‘n’ roll.” – Uncut..
“With Angels of Destruction!, Philly natives Dave and Serge Bielanko, and their band have cranked out another relentlessly energetic dose of fast-and-loose brilliance. Angels reaffirms that these scrappy underdogs (and fans from Stephen King and Steve Earle to Bruce Springsteen and Nick Hornby) are not misguided in their unwavering belief that it’s still possible to save rock ‘n’ roll. As long as Marah lives, the epic rock album will not fade away.” – Lynne Margolis, Paste Magazine.
“Marah turns sky-high expectations into down-to-earth rock reality that makes your head bang and your heart pump.” –New York Post
“Their performances are raucous, ramshackle, soulful, and utterly committed to the magical notion that rock is a vehicle for a higher power.” – The Times

The Lowest Pair (USA) + Skylark Song
The Lowest Pair feature the duel banjo picking of Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee. Draped in Kendl’s high lonesome harmonies and Palmer’s Midwest croon, their debut album was hailed by American Songwriter.
Arkansas-born and now homesteading in Olympia, Kendl brings to The Lowest Pair her wonderfully weaving poetry of song, old and new, and a voice somewhere between Gillian Welch and Iris DeMent with a little Olympia twist. Palmer T. Lee who hails from Minneapolis was nineteen years old when he inherited a couple of banjos and discovered he could reassemble them into his dream instrument. Palmer’s songs are distilled into the warm sweet sounds of his percussive wordplay and the melodic interludes of his own unique style played on a pieced together banjo.
Folk radio UK – “Music for sunshine and mint juleps” Fatea magazine “Voices just born to sing bluegrass and old-time” Lonesome Highway - “A musical marriage made in heaven” R2 magazine “Vocal perfection” Americana UK – “A true joy”
Alex & Emma McRae - Skylark Song grew out of a mutual love of warm melodies, close harmonies and the odd natural lyrical reference. The Crack Magazine describing them as “Utterly gorgeous” and “the kind of folk music that feels like it’s been constructed from hedgerows and wild flowers”.

An Evening With MARTIN STEPHENSON
Martin Stephenson returns for his annual show at Caedmon Hall. He has been one of the UK’s best-loved musicians for over 30 years.
Always popular on the circuit, Stephenson’s “must see” live performances are an exuberant tour-de-force combining heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation. Martin & The Daintees’ critically acclaimed 1986 debut “Boat To Boliva” opened up an exhilarating music career. It showcased Stephenson’s song-writing, poetic romanticism and spiritual depth – so marking him out as a soulful cream of the leftfield crop during the self-obsessed 1980s.
Never pandering to a particular scene, Stephenson’s lightness of touch on a varied mix of musical styles was immediately apparent. His path destined to be a lifelong journey through the music he loves: folk, ragtime, jazz, rockabilly, show tunes, punk-pop and country.

WHITNEY ROSE & Band ( USA/Canada) + Mush
Ever since the release of her 2015 album “Heartbreaker of the Year” Whitney Rose has been converting critics’ double takes into palpable buzz with her beguiling blend of then and now. The countrypolitan singer songwriter’s work has been praised everywhere from Rolling Stone Magazine to The New York Times and landed her a spot on Telegraph UK’s top country albums of 2015 list. Before moving to Texas in 2016, Rose had never danced the two-step. Now, the country-pop singer’s infatuation with Texas’ rich musical culture, from stage to studio to dance floor, informs an enthralling new project, a love letter to the Lone Star State. Her new EP, South Texas Suite, is a touch nostalgic, deeply romantic and defiantly personal — it’s Texas, through Whitney Rose’s eyes and ears.

BARRENCE WHITFIELD & THE SAVAGES (USA) + Support
Barrence Whitfield is a full-throttle soul screamer in the spirit of Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, and Solomon Burke. He has been described as the owner of one incredible pair of lungs, with limitless energy and unmatched enthusiasm for his music and his audience. Barrence is a rarity in this business–one of a few black, rock 'n roll singer/entertainers who Spin Magazine says maintains a frenzied performance. The Savages lay down a groovy racket that’s so thick and greasy, you’ll need to keep moist towelettes near the hi-fi. Barrence and the boys are to soul what the Cramps are to Rockabilly.
I hadn't heard from Barrence in a while...I have now. Don't "Turn Your Damper Down"...Turn it up!" - Elvis Costello
"Barrence is back, bigger and better than ever, playing with the right guys, The Savages, who first helped Barrence explode onto the scene in the 80s. Raw and powerful, the way I like it, shot through with unexpected humor." - Peter Zaremba, The Fleshtones
"Barrence Whitfield is the Barrence Whitfield of R&B." - Andy Kershaw, BBC
"Rock royalty." - Boston Herald.

CHASTITY BROWN (USA) + Little Mo & Friends
The wonderful songsmith/troubadour Chastity Brown who's based in Minnesota (but with roots in the deep South) makes a welcome return to Newcastle as a duo. Her music has a gospelly protest singer vibe, not unlike Odetta but their still expansive, alluring folk songs" - You may have seen her on BBC2's Later with Jools Holland.

The legendary Vin Gordon, aka 'Trommie', aka 'Don D Junior', is Jamaica's master trombonist, and played through the golden years of Jamaican music - through ska, rocksteady and on to working with some of the most iconic reggae artists in the world.
Vin's life in music started in the early 60s at the legendary Alpha Boys School of Music where he took up the trombone. Soon mastering his sound and earning a reputation as a player, he started recording at Coxone Dodd's Studio One in 1965 recording for The Wailers alongside great musicians such as The Skatalites' Roland Alphonso, Tommy McCook, Jackie Mittoo, Lloyd Brevett, Lester Sterling, Bobby Ellis and many more.
Vin's trombone sounds can be heard on the recordings of many Studio One legends of the day: the Wailers, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, the Abyssinians, the Heptones, Delroy Wilson, Bob Andy and Alton Ellis and plenty more, the list is staggering.
His biggest hits as a solo artist were 'Heavenless' (credited as 'Don D Junior') and 'Real Rock', which he composed alongside keyboard genius Jackie Mittoo, a forever popular massive reggae anthem, and possibly the most covered riddim in reggae history.
In 1977 his friend Bob Marley brought him to London (Vin was his favourite trombone player having played on the Natty Dread and Rastaman Vibration albums) to record the Exodus and Kaya albums, both million selling classic albums (including hits like ‘Is This Love’, ‘Satisfy My Soul’, ‘Exodus’). While in the UK he also worked with Aswad contributing greatly to their success at the time writing heavy horn based tunes such as 'Warrior Charge' and 'Dub Fire' (immortalised by Dennis Brown as 'Promised Land'). For the last twenty years Vin has toured the world as a member of The Wailers and the Skatalites and in more recent times he has led his own group, the Real Rock Band a fantastic 8 piece London based outfit.
