DANIEL ROMANO & The Trilliums (Canada) + The Black Feathers

Mosey music is a study in contrasts. There's glitz and grit, reveling and wallowing, wretchedness and showmanship. Mosey music's pioneers wore their battered hearts on sequined sleeves. From Bakersfield to Galveston, the legends traded their tragicomic highs and lows for gold records and white Cadillacs. But that was then; the days of Buckaroos, Nudie Suits and various Hanks are over, save for the museum displays. To quote a George Jones title track, "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?"

Enter Daniel Romano, a songwriter who delivers mosey croonin' and hard luck storytelling. While references to marquee names like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard are apparent in Romano's music, the obvious influences certainly don't demystify his talent. Romano works with equal parts authenticity and creativity, and his musical world is rich with archetypes and archrivals, wry observations and earnest confessions.

WILLIE WATSON (USA) + Guests

Born in Watkins Glen, N.Y., a founder of the Old Crow Medicine Show turned solo & looking like a man from leaner and meaner times, Willie Watson steps on stage with a quiet gravitas. But, when he opens his mouth and lets out that high lonesome vocal, you can certainly hear him loud and clear.

His debut solo album, Folk Singer Vol. 1, was produced by David Rawlings at Woodland Sound Studios, the studio he co-owns with associate producer Gillian Welch in Nashville, TN, over the course of a pair of two-day sessions, for their own Acony Records label. The album spans ten songs from the American folk songbook ranging from standards like “Midnight Special,” and Richard “Rabbit” Brown’s “James Alley Blues” to the more obscure, like Memphis Slim’s 12-bar blues, “Mother Earth,” Gus Cannon and the Jug Stompers’ “Bring it With You When You Come,” .” Like the music, Willie can be murderous, bawdy or lustful, sometimes in the course of a single song, with a sly sense of humor that cuts to the quick.

This is his first solo tour of europe-

PETE MOLINARI & Band + Support

Pete Molinari’s fourth album 'Theosophy' sits at that point where, as Muddy Waters put it, the blues had a baby and they called it rock ‘n’ roll. Here soul, country, blues and rockabilly collide in perfect symbiosis. The songs tell tales of life, love, literature and compact the singer/songwriter’s many decades of musical influences and his globe-spanning, wandering lifestyle down into a collection that is as uplifting as it lush, as classic-sounding as it is contemporary-minded.

Those in the know know and without the fanfare of hype, Pete can count among his fans – amongst others - Bruce Springsteen, Ray Davies, Paul Weller, Jools Holland, Bob Dylan, Richard Hawley, The Black Keys and Elvis Presley’s backing band The Jordanaires, with who Molinari recorded in Nashville in 2009. Simply put he has risen to become one of Britain’s finest country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll singer.

Now 2014 sees Pete back living in the Medway Delta – well, Rochester, Kent - after stints residing in Nashville, New York and London. With 'Theosophy' his most assured, diverse and richest album yet the open road beckons once again.

Jefferson Harmer (USA) & Kristin Andreassen (USA) + Support

Guitarist and singer Jefferson Hamer, co-recipient of a 2014 BBC2 Folk Award, and songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kristin Andreassen join together to showcase their newest original music after a spectacular year performing at the Newport Folk Festival, Royal Albert Hall, and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. They first met over a decade ago in Lyons, Colorado, where Kristin and her band Uncle Earl gathered to rehearse material for their award-winning album Waterloo, Tennessee, produced by Led Zep legend John Paul Jones. Jefferson lived next door, and he and Kristin sang country-style duets in the kitchen, finding common ground in traditional music from both sides of the Atlantic. Kristin's songwriting earned her a feature on NPR's Prairie Home Companion (with Jefferson as guitarist-in-tow) and her skills as a backing vocalist and instrumentalist were highlighted on recent UK tours with Jeffery Lewis and Aoife O'Donovan. Jefferson's collaboration with songwriter Anais Mitchell brought widespread acclaim in both the USA and the UK, and their award winning album Child Ballads was named one of the 10 Best Folk albums of 2013by NPR. Kristin's new release Gondolier features Jefferson on guitar and harmony vocals, and she contributes vocal harmonies, keyboards, and foot percussion to Jefferson's electric and acoustic guitar-driven songs.

A gifted guitarist and singer, Jefferson Hamer is able to hit close harmonies… and weave gorgeous instrumental lines.” -Acoustic Guitar

An Evening with MICHELLE SHOCKED

In a 27-year music career American acoustic/folk star Michelle Shocked is a travelling troubadour whose musical talent is so eclectic it is difficult to categorize. As a young songstress, she left her Texas home to travel, Kerouac-style. Her career was ignited by a bootleg recording she made around a campfire @ the Kerrville Folk Festival. That album - The Texas Campfire Tapes became a massive worldwide hit & subsequent success followed with the follow up album’s Short Sharp Shocked, Captain Swing & Arkansas Traveler.
Her classic songs from that era like Anchorage, Memories of East Texas, When I Grow Up, Come a Long Way have all even became staple music played in your high street shops. She has made good use of her independence though, releasing more critically- acclaimed albums on her own Mighty Sound label since the 00’s. Her 2009 album, Soul of My Soul, was the latest of these.
“Cab Calloway's swagger, country's sadness and folk's sweetness all roll together, both in old standards and political numbers & there's still a power to Shocked's music that will linger long after she runs out of breath. The Guardian.

So with her hometown trio this is to be a real treat.

LAURA VEIRS solo tour - An Evening with Laura Veirs (USA) + Guests

One of the most inimitable songwriters of the past decade – Portland, Oregon’s Laura Veirs – returns with a solo, tour & her ninth full-length album. Beautiful, lush and at times deeply dark, Warp and Weft captures the intensity of motherhood, love and violence. Primarily electric-guitar driven, it is a fever dream of an album and could well be Veirs’ best work to date, building on the uniform praise and commercial success of 2010′s “July Flame”.a Union.

Biography

Laura Veirs grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she often spent summers camping with her family, which gave her much of her songwriting inspiration. Veirs has said that she didn’t seriously listen to music until she was in her 20s; instead, she just heard what was in her environment. She listened to folk, country, classical and pop music around the house and on the radio during her youth.

Attending Carleton College in rural Minnesota, Veirs latched onto feminist punk rock from the Pacific Northwest, eventually starting an all-female punk band called “Rair Kx!”. Laura studied geology and Mandarin Chinese. After college, she embraced older country and folk music. Her first foray into songwriting started with a geological expedition in China, where she served as translator. She was miserable and immersed herself into writing lyrics as a way of coping.

She put out her own self-titled album Laura Veirs, recorded live and featuring just her and guitar, in 1999. She has since made five highly acclaimed records with producer Tucker Martine. 2003 saw the release of Troubled by the Fire, a full-band effort that found the artist sharing the studio with such luminaries as Bill Frisell and violist Eyvind Kang. She signed to Nonesuch Records the following year with the atmospheric follow-up Carbon Glacier. Year of Meteors followed in August 2005. She collaborated with The Decemberists on “Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)”, from their 2006 album The Crane Wife. Her sixth record, Saltbreakers, was released worldwide on Nonesuch Records in April 2007.

Veirs and Martine now live in Portland, Oregon.

SARAH BORGES with Girls Guns and Glory + Florent Dufour .

"After four critically-acclaimed records & seven years on the road with her Boston based band the Broken Singles Singer songstress Sarah Borges had an amicable breakup. After a year, it hit me like a ton of bricks -but I didn't have to stop doing music," says Borges, .
Among the supporters were Rolling Stone magazine, which described the artist as "friendly pop–rock with bits of twang, rockabilly, and '50 pop"; and The New York Times who described her as "a modern-minded honky-tonker with a retro streak." Paste magazine hits the nail on the head when they wrote, "she has all the good parts of Sheryl Crow's sound without the L.A. pop suckdom."
This time out, the singer/songwriter/guitarist took the more daunting, yet more courageous, route of going it alone. the Boston , Mass artist got a boost of confidence when she ran a crowd-funding campaign to raise money for new album "Radio Sweetheart." COCO LOVERS + Hot Feet

Operating well beyond the remit of alt-folk, Cocos Lovers (pronounced Co-Coss) are a distinctive musical force, seamlessly channelling influences from Africa, the US Deep South and several other real and imagined corners of the globe, while staying ever faithful to their Kentish roots. Hailing from the small but musically rich town of Deal, they are a close-knit 7-piece band of family, friends and former au pairs. Their music swells with powerful choir-like harmonies and glorious widescreen melodies, and they’ve earned a reputation for fantastic live performances with an ever-changing instrumental line-up of mandolin, banjo, acoustic and electric guitars, harmonica, violin, musical saw, flute and a unique blend of drums and percussion.

Hot Feet are a fyoung olk rock band & their music lives and breathes in the countryside. Their new ep ‘Wood House’ was written in a small cabin on the east coast of Sweden and recorded in a remote studio in the Scottish Highlands, only accessible by boat.
The band draw together a range of musical influences including delta blues, sixties folk and world rhythms. Clamorous in places, delicate in others; sometimes offering raucous, earthy uproar and a wistful, yearning narrative within the same song. The EP ranges from stomping gallops to tender ballads, and has been lovingly and impressively produced by Pete Roe, long-time side-man of Laura Marling and a gifted songwriter in his own right. "Truly nothing short of fabulous...really wonderful". Marc Riley 6Music

This is not someone raised in front of a television blaring Gilligan's Island re-runs -- she grew up on a commune in the mountains of Virginia, and it shows in her refreshing jazz/folk originals.” - Sing Out!

“There's a refreshing sweetness about the work of this Canadian-American songwriter -- there in her mellifluous vocals and poetic, freewheeling lyrics that, in the way of Bjork and Joanna Newsom, are more blank verse than rhyming schemes. Sproule's songs ooze the atmosphere of balmy Virginia days - she grew up in a commune in the state - and her sunny outlook is infectious.” -The Observer

FRAZEY FORD & BAND (USA) + Guests

Best known as the lead singer for well loved alt folk band The Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford's new album confirms what we have always suspected - that a great unexplored talent for soul music lay just below the surface.

Following up her critically acclaimed solo album Obadiah, Miss Ford returns with the lush, redemptive “Indian Ocean”, fulfilling a lifelong dream of working with the Hi Rhythm Section (made famous for backing up Al Green and Ann Peebles) in the historic Royal studios in Memphis, Tennessee.

The story behind the making of Frazey Ford's new album begins shortly after she penned the album’s rapturous leadoff single, “September Fields.” Filmmaker Robert Gordon (Can’t Be Satisfied: The Life And Times Of Muddy Waters) was working on a documentary on Memphis soul, focusing on Al Green and producer Willie Mitchell’s creative home base, Royal Studios, that was also the studio that fostered Green’s visionary backing band, the Hi Rhythm section. Gordon had heard Frazey’s song “If you gonna go” from her solo debut Obadiah (Nettwerk) on Memphis radio and was struck by how it conjured up a pivotal time in soul music history without aping its stylistic clichés. Robert initiated a collaboration between Frazey and the soul all-stars, having previously lent the same assistance to Cat Power for her outstanding 2006 album "The Greatest".

Soon Frazey found herself in Memphis sitting next to legendary Al Green organist Rev. Charles Hodges listening with rapt attention as he recounted stories and played her favorite songs. “It was an amazing feeling being in that studio, singing into those old microphones, and collaborating with these incredibly talented heroes of subtle groove and soul. I could feel the history and vibe of that place coming up through the floor,” Frazey says.

The album's creative cycle spanned over two years, involving two recording trips to Memphis and multiple studio sessions with Frazey's Vancouver musicians. The iconic architects of the Al Green instrumental sound—Teenie Hodges, guitar, Charles Hodges, organ, and Leroy Hodges, bass lent their almighty talents helping Frazey's songs find their distinctive groove. The end result of all of this collective creative meshing is Frazey's folk-soul hybrid record that feels both familiar and innovative simultaneously

Indian Ocean was co-produced and mixed by Frazey’s longtime creative partner John Raham in Vancouver at Afterlife Studios (who also produced and mixed Frazey’s first solo album, Obadiah).

DAN BAIRD & HOMEMADE SIN (USA) + STAN

Runka, runka, three chords and a cloud of dust. The Georgia Satellites led by Dan Baird were one of the most ferocious bands of the ‘80s and what set them apart from the other 10,000 groups who cranked their amps up to 11 was that their wild riffs and tanked cries came from a band that, from the start, understood it’s place in rock tradition and fought hard to solidify it with each recording.

Dan Baird went on to a successful solo career with Rick Rubin’s Def American label,. He also found time to record and tour as part of the ‘alt-supergroup’, The Yayhoos who also featured Keith Christopher.

In 2007 and following a succession of lengthy European tours in support of the double live cd Feels So Good, the band with original Satellites Keith & Mauro , now called Dan Baird & Homemade Sin, added Warner E. Hodges, guitarist extraordinaire with Nashville legends, Jason And The Scorchers.

29th Anniversary show - Petunia & Vipers Duo (Canada) + Sour Mash Trio

Back over the pond for Jumpin Hot Club’s 29th anniversary, as the club hand picked Petunia for the occasion without The Vipers but as a unique duo. He has another stunningly talented musician, Mr Nathan M. Godfrey with him who plays old time guitar, banjo and mandolin. They have toured extensively on the US/Canadian circuit for many years as a duo, but never Europe . Audiences can expect covers of Hank Williams, Lefty Frizell, Jimme Rodgers, Riley Puckett and Jelly Roll Morton as well as strong collections of originals, including many already known to fans of The Vipers.

It's a really "hot!" show, especially as local favourite’s Sour Mash Trio open for this special occasion.

Dom & his hot New Orleans piano grooving Trio were a massive hit @ JHot Jamboree. No surprise really as he's Paloma Faiths MD. There back up north for our special anniversary ....made even more special because our local favorite bluesman Johnny Dickinson is back & has agreed to play a solo set.
